In short, Windows WFWG are pre-Internet Hype GUI operating systems. So without Trumpet Winsock, you will simply not be able to run Netscape (Graphical Web Browser), Eudora (E-Mail), etc via your GUI operating system. When your account has been approved, and if you don't already have a copy of Trumpet Winsock, you can dial-in and get a copy by either using Windows Terminal program or via your favourite BBS communications software. Once you have logged in, using your account username and password, you will be able to download Trumpet Winsock using either Z-Modem or X-Modem download protocols. Downloading with Z-Modem ------------------------ To download using Z-Modem protocol you will need to execute, sz /home/ftp/pub/windows/twsk20b.zip Downloading with X-Modem ------------------------ To download using X-Modem protocol you will need to execute, sx /home/ftp/pub/windows/twsk20b.zip Installing Trumpet Winsock -------------------------- After downloading a copy of Trumpet Winsock, you will need to de-archive (unpack) the software in to it's own directory. 1. md twsk (create a directory for it) 2. cd twsk (change into theat directory) 3. pkunzip -e twsk20b.zip (unpack Trumpet Winsocks files) +------------------------------------------------+ |How do I configure Windows and WFWG to run SLIP?| +------------------------------------------------+ To begin this process will need to obtain a copy of Trumpet Winsock if you don't already have it. To start fresh, it's best to delete (or at least, rename) 'TRUMPWSK.INI', this way we can be sure that we start with the default settings. Next, run the 'TCPMAN.EXE (Trumpet Winsock)' program. When running, it should present us with it's setting menu.
